Guardian of the Cyan Arc (Cyan Arc)

Literal Translation:

Arc Cyan’s Guardian (Arc Cyan)

Notes:

Lich’s title and main profession. The Cyan Arc is an incredibly powerful Boomerang of Light that is renowned for its ability to be thrown and caught again in the blink of an eye. It has historical links to many places, important figures, and also to the Ebony Lance. The name is a result of this quote:

“What I don't get, Ark, is why you decided on ‘Ebony Lance’. It doesn't have anything…poetic about it. I mean, you tell someone that this is the Cyan Arc, the poetry in the name heightens the power, they're in awe. ‘Ebony Lance’ falls dead on my lips.” –Lich, Twilighter Council: Chapter 12 – Brothers-in-Arms

Cannon Travel Network

Literal Translation:

Network Travel-Cannon

Notes:

See Secret of Mana.

Cannon Travel, i.e. being shot out of a cannon and landing on another part of the planet, assisted by Mana, is the main form of long-distance travel on Fa’Diel. The Cannon Travel Network, the body that governs the use of Cannon Travel, acts as a fully independent quasi-sovereign organisation, meaning that the nations of Fa’Diel can only exercise their authority in part upon it (usually in the form of “requests”). All land it uses for its travel centres and gunpowder mines is extra-territorial. The Network adamantly retains neutrality and it will not allow nations to launch soldiers into hostile territory. Under the Treaty of Mandala, nations are not permitted to create their own Cannon Travel. Founded in Kippo, its headquarters are located in Matango, the central transportation hub of Fa’Diel.

(The Guardians)

Literal Translation:

Order (of the) Guardians and Sages (of) Fa’Diel, The

(The Guardians)

Notes:

An Order created after the Resurrection of the Fortress to ensure that such an event does not happen again (much like the role of the United Nations); namely, to defend one’s station with their life to prevent its use by corrupted hands. Admittance is through the demonstration of outstanding ability in a particular field (especially for the creation of Palace Guardians), or through a need for a location or an artefact of power to be safeguarded (e.g. Gold Island, the Cyan Arc, Wisdom etc.). The term “Sage” tends only to be used to describe those posts traditionally held by those who had that title, such as Wisdom and the Water Palace (though many regard the current Water Palace Guardian too young to be called a “Sage”). The eight Palace Guardians (those who Guard the Mana Seeds) act as the masters of the Order, with the other Guardians answerable to one of them either through being near the closest Palace or through Elemental alliance. Longevity and the ability to be above some laws (as dictated by the Charter of the Order of the Guardians and Sages of Fa’Diel) are bonuses of the title.

NAMES

Important People

Name:

Ark Beruga Yoshi von Kippo

Script:

Notes:

Lich’s younger brother. Guardian of the Ebony Lance. Magenta skin.

Hatched a child prodigy, he was forced to endure many of his formative years in isolation after being swept into an underground cave system beneath Pandora. After the events of When We Meet Again, he was reunited with Lich and turned his attention more fully towards robotics after the events of Rustling Leaves: his goal is to create a robot with artificial intelligence. While in isolation, he was acted upon by Lich’s arcane foes to believe his brother had betrayed him; these feelings are annulled until events in Twilighter Council tip Ark into a pit of conflicting feelings towards him.

Name:

Dyluck Thanatos Yoshi von Kippo (DTYvK)

Lich / Dy

Script:

Notes:

The main character of the stories on this website. Guardian of the Cyan Arc. Orange skin.

Hatched to migrant Yoshi parents as a native of Fa’Diel, the world of Secret of Mana approximately two centuries after the events in its story transpire. His early life is chronicled in his autobiography, Light and Metaphor, whilst When We Meet Again, Rustling Leaves and Twilighter Council tell the tales of some of his adventures. “Lich” is a well-known nickname he prefers to go by while on his racial homeworld of Yamauchi; however he prefers the nickname “Dy” on Fa’Diel (with some exceptions). His goal in life is to simply take it as it comes.

His short signature is comprised of his initials. Correctly in Pandoran, this would be “DThYvK”, but he prefers to use an initial “T” instead of a “Th” for a number of reasons: a partial mask of his middle name and its connotations, the fact that the Yoshian language does not have a “Th” character, and that the extra “h” in languages other than Pandoran appears to be of the same status as the “v”.

Location:

Throughout. First appearance in narrative history: Light and Metaphor: Chapter 2

Script:

Notes:

Ground Elemental. Has the appearance of a brown, short, squat, bearded man with oversized shoes and a floppy green nightcap. He has a personality of an easily-affronted bumbling womaniser.

It appears as an eye with a black tail and two black wings. Is cold, emotionless, introverted and generally impartial in character.

Name:

Theutes Lantan Whalki

Script:

Notes:

Native of Northtown in the Empire, became the Guardian of the Fire Palace in Kakkara and thus best spellcaster of Salamando.

He was wrested away from his family on Fa’Diel by the Zolott portals of When We Meet Again and resided in the slave-owner desert city of Tullabanariga, meeting Lich again there. The events of Stranded on Zolott sent him back to Fa’Diel, where he ousted his replacement, Zulan Tipsot, from office. This sparked a very bitter rivalry between the two. Lich does not get along with him due to an incident surrounding a practical joke (Light and Metaphor: Chapter 26); he is quite annoying in character.

His name is pronounced “thyoots lahn-t’n wawl-ki”, a challenge for most Pandorans.

Location:

First Appearance When We Meet Again: Chapter 70 – Tob and D’krim. First appearance in narrative history: Light and Metaphor: Chapter 25. Sporadic appearances in Twilighter Council.

Name:

Zulan Tipsot

Script:

Notes:

Patriotic Kakkara native, Guardian of the Desert.

He was Guardian of the Fire Palace during Theutes Whalki’s absence; however, upon his return, he was relegated to the position of Guardian of the Desert. Deeply embittered, he saw this as a demotion and, as it comes to pass in Twilighter Council, he brazenly stormed the Fire Palace with loyal troops and held Theutes and King Mamsto of Kakkara hostage whilst assuming the role of dictator, sparking a war with Pandora and Tasnica. It is rumoured his powers exceed those of Theutes’.

Location:

First Appearance Twilighter Council: Chapter 76 – By Blood and Jewel.

Perhaps the most pertinent example of the use of the interchangeable Pandoran “v/f” letter; however, it is incorrect to spell it as “Va’Diel” outside Pandoran script.
